The Youth Dance Companies:

The Dance House's youth dance companies were created to provide a platform for promising young dancers to advance their technique, confidence and performance skills. They work towards performances and video projects, and often perform at prominent events and theatre nights in Edinburgh and around Scotland. Annual performances include IGNITE hip hop theatre night, Leith Festival and Meadows Festival, and previous performances have included the Breakin' Convention tour Edinburgh show, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Wildhood Festival, Fringe by the Sea, various events at the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh's Open Streets, and many more. Members of youth companies are also the first to be offered additional performance projects that may be open to The Dance House dancers.

The youth companies work towards performances, so being part of the companies does require a level of commitment, and members are expected to attend training every week during term-time, as well as one Saturday evening per month for members of the Groundbreakers and Out of the Box. The Groundbreakers (ages 10-14), train on a Monday evening at 5.30-6.45pm while Out of the Box (ages 14+), train on a Monday evening at 6.45-8pm. Training, rehearsals and performances can be challenging, but also a lot of fun! 

There are fees for the youth company training, paid in terms - and training sessions keep to school terms, with Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays matching school holidays in Edinburgh. The fees work out at £8 per week, but this covers not only the regular weekly hour and a quarter training and Saturday evening sessions but also any other rehearsals that are necessary for shows, extra filming projects, and so on.

How to Audition:

 

To audition for the Groundbreakers or Out of The Box, you need to learn the choreography in the below videos (use the same videos and choreography to apply for either youth company), and submit a video of yourself dancing the choreography - go full out!  Email the video to  using a Dropbox, GoogleDrive or WeTransfer link, and provide name, age, date of birth, and confirmation of availability on Monday evening training times, and at least one Saturday evening per month (6-8pm). For those under the age of 16, a parent must submit the email. All submissions must be received by midnight on 2nd August 2026.  Good luck!
